First classroom equiped with Galicaster Class, ready to run

12 Jan First classroom equiped with Galicaster Class, ready to run

The very first  classroom equiped with a Galicaster Class (GClass) device is ready. This classroom is also the first of the ten that we will be setting up for the University of Vigo “Campus do Mar“ Matterhorn pilot project, during Spring semester.

This room’s recording equipment is based on aa i7 GClass rack-mounted device, a HD USB camera, and a redundant audio system: 1 wireless microphone and 4 ceiling microphones with a 4 channel noise-gate.

For a maximun efficiency this i7 GClass device is configured in a “Capturer-Worker” way. It means that it performs as a capturer 10 hours during the day, and 14 hours as a worker[1] at night. This way we increase the CPU available for post-recording processing as we increase our recording capacity.

[1] – In the Opencast Matterhorn project jargon, “workers” are servers that take care of all the analysis, inspection, processing and transcoding of media files.
